Finding Educational Law Information

An Overview: The Information Revolution is slowly catching up to the government and much information is beginning to come online in free, searchable databases. I have no doubt that by the time I retire, every document published by the government will be online and searchable for free. Problem is, not everything is there yet and the corporate information brokers, Thomson Reuters (Westlaw), Reed Elsevier (LexisNexis), Wolters-Kluwer (Loislaw), etc., still have exclusive control over large swaths of the legal information landscape. For instance, there is no way for me to allow you to search and access law reviews. They are held under exclusive copyright agreements.

What I can do is provide links and custom searches to what IS available online, for free and I can help train you to become good researchers using these sources. You can click the link of the video on the right to get a 5 min. tutorial on finding free ed. law information. The good news is that unless you are a lawyer, this might be good enough. The bad news is that I cannot and do not provide 100% coverage. In using free sites you must realize and accept that you will be missing resources. For instance, if there is a state appellate court case directly on point, I can't find that for you ... Westlaw can.

Anyway, with all that said, for many folks who just want to get an idea on an educational law topic, such as educational leadership students, the sites below will work just fine.
